Focus areas

Where Angular builds win or lose in search

Speed, structured data and scale come up on every platform we work with. The code panels are simplified examples of what we check and change.

Hydration without the double fetch

A frequent fault in Angular SSR apps: the server builds the page, then the browser asks the API for the same data again while hydrating. Crawlers end up paying for both trips. TransferState writes the server's response into the HTML so the client reuses it, which also stops content from blinking out and back during hydration.

Deferrable views over lazy modules

Standalone components did away with NgModules, and `@defer` now covers most custom lazy loading with a simple trigger. Content below the fold loads when it scrolls into view, so the first bundle shrinks without complicated route splitting. The placeholder is rendered on the server, which keeps that content in the HTML crawlers read.

Typed, injectable, testable

Large teams like Angular because many routine decisions are already made: strict TypeScript, dependency injection and a router with typed guards and resolvers. When several teams share one codebase, that consistency matters more than benchmark scores. SEO logic lives in resolvers with unit tests instead of being spread across components.

About this stack

Building on Angular with CreateITivity

On a Angular project, our Custom Development developers and SEO leads plan the build together, so search needs shape the architecture from the start. We design around the framework's quirks early and hand over code your own team can run and extend.

  • Angular developers and SEO leads plan the build together
  • All code lands in your repository, with no licence fees to us
  • Part of our wider Custom Development service
  • Every build ends with a handover and written documentation
How the work runs

How we work

Steps in a Angular project

Projects move through the same stages in order. You can see progress at each one through regular written updates.

  1. Track down repeat requests

    $ ng build && node verify-ssr.mjs

    We list each API call the browser makes again after hydration and route it through TransferState. On an Angular SSR app we inherit, this is often the biggest single improvement.

  2. Put SEO logic in resolvers

    $ ng test --include=**/*.resolver.spec.ts

    Titles, canonicals and JSON-LD are settled before rendering starts, so the HTML from the server arrives complete and the client has nothing to patch.

  3. Defer offscreen blocks

    $ ng build --stats-json

    @defer blocks trigger on viewport and render placeholders on the server, giving a smaller first bundle while crawlers still see the content.

  4. Prerender stable routes

    $ ng build --prerender

    Routes that never vary are prerendered during the build, dynamic routes stay server-rendered, and the list of each is kept in the repo so it stays accurate.

FAQs

Angular questions we hear often

Straight answers to what Canadian clients ask us before they commit.

Why does our Angular SSR app load its data twice?
The server rendered the page, then the browser called the API again to hydrate it. We see this more than any other Angular SSR issue, and search crawlers pay for both requests. TransferState fixes it by embedding the server's data in the page so the client reads it there. Content also stops flickering while the app hydrates.
Is Angular worse than React for SEO?
No. The framework is seldom the reason a site struggles in search. Standalone components in Angular 17 and later removed the NgModule overhead, and server rendering with hydration performs comparably to React stacks on the metrics Google uses. The bigger question is whether SEO work happens in resolvers before rendering or in components that change the page afterwards.
Should we prerender or server-render?
Use both, based on whether a route changes per request. Pages that look the same to everyone get prerendered and served as static files. Truly dynamic pages render on the server. Record which is which in the repository, because routes tend to drift from one group to the other without anyone noticing until crawl statistics shift.
What does @defer do for us?
It replaces most custom lazy loading with a declared trigger. Blocks below the fold load as they come into view and stay out of the first route bundle. Since the placeholder renders on the server, crawlers still find the content in the HTML, so you get a lighter bundle and lose nothing in search.
