Channels Work Best When They Run in Sequence

Search, ads, content, links and conversion work, planned as a single program and judged on sales. These channels depend on each other, so we begin with the one holding the others back. The flashiest one can wait.

Sometimes a single channel is enough and paying for six wastes money

Signing up for all six channels is often a mistake. Here are three situations where a single service is the right call, followed by two questions that tell you which one fits.

  • A single problem holds everything back

When Google cannot crawl or render your site, other work has nothing to stand on. Paying for content, links and ads at that point means building on sand.

    Sort that out first
  • Your numbers are still too small

Tests need enough visitors to give a reliable answer, and big keywords need authority before they budge. Under those levels a full program creates busywork. We would sooner plan the order than send invoices for it.

See the maths on the CRO page
  • The offer is not landing

If visitors leave no matter where they came from, more traffic will not help. Marketing puts an offer in front of people. It cannot rescue a weak one.

    Test with real users

Two questions to ask yourself

  1. Can Google load, render and understand your site right now? If the answer is no, fixing that is the entire job for now.
  2. Is one channel already bringing in leads, sales or rankings that others could build on? If so, begin there and add channels one at a time.
Sequence matters

Every step sets up the one after it.

Work through these in order and each investment builds on the last. Jump ahead to a later step and you fund activity with nothing underneath it to build on, which is an easy way to burn through a marketing budget.

  1. Until Google can load, render and understand your pages, nothing built on top of them will pay off.

Skip it when a site crawl turns up no serious errors and Core Web Vitals already pass at the 75th percentile.

  2. Journalists and AI tools cite pages that earn it. Pitching a thin page gets polite silence.

Skip it when your strongest pages already cover ground the current top ten results leave out.

  3. Once the page is good enough, rankings on contested keywords depend on which sites vouch for you.

Skip it when you already rank for most things and the gaps are terms with no searches. That calls for demand work.

  4. A better funnel raises the value of every visit that follows, paid clicks included.

Skip it when your traffic is too low for a test to reach a result. The CRO page tells you this before offering anything.

  5. Ads bring in leads while organic is still building, and they show which keywords convert before you spend months chasing rankings for them.

Skip it when your margins are too thin for paid customer acquisition. Tell us at the start and the plan works around it.

  6. When your site is readable, clearly identified and easy to quote, AI assistants become a second place to win.

Skip it when AI tools still mix your business up with others. Clarifying who you are has to come before this.

Our Digital Marketing principles

How we approach Digital Marketing

The working rules we apply to each client, so progress builds month on month and the plan stays on course.

A single plan, a single budget

When five suppliers each chase their own number, nobody owns the result. We put SEO, ads, content, links and CRO under shared targets so the whole account pulls one way.

Sequenced for return

You will not get a template rollout across a dozen channels. We look at your market, find where money comes back fastest, and line up the rest behind it.

Reported against sales

Each channel feeds one dashboard that tracks leads, pipeline and revenue. You can see what your spend produced without wading through traffic charts.

The planner is the doer

Whoever builds your plan also carries it out. Your questions go straight to the person doing the work, with no account coordinator passing messages along.

01Why separate channels work better as one
The system

Why separate channels work better as one

A lot of Canadian companies end up with a patchwork: an SEO firm on retainer, a different shop running Google Ads, a freelance writer billing monthly. Every supplier reports its own win. Nobody compares notes, and the invoices pile up without a clear picture of growth. Planned together, each channel makes the next one cheaper. Ad data reveals which search terms bring buyers, so the SEO work targets those first. Pages that rank organically become strong landing pages for ads. Conversion fixes raise the value of every visit, whatever the source. Press coverage builds the authority that helps both paid and organic pages perform.

  • Search terms that convert in ads guide the SEO plan
  • Organic pages reused as ad landing pages
  • Conversion gains apply to all traffic at once
  • Shared targets and a single report
02Before adding anything, we sort what you have into keep and cut
What you already run

Before adding anything, we sort what you have into keep and cut

Almost nobody arrives with a blank slate. There is an ads account built by a past contractor, an SEO retainer that renewed itself, a writer still sending invoices. The first two weeks are partly about which channel to start with, and partly about which existing work earns its keep once we actually measure it. Anything already producing a return stays, even if it is small, and we tell you before changing it. Rebuilding something that quietly worked just burns a quarter. Work gets cut when its numbers cannot justify it. Being old or unfashionable is not a reason.

  • We list what is running before proposing anything new
  • Profitable work stays in place
  • Cuts are based on measured return
  • You approve the keep-and-cut list first

Working together

The steps in a Digital Marketing project

Each stage has a clear output, so your team can see what is in progress and what comes next.

01

Review and benchmark

We go through each channel, your analytics and the competitors you meet in search, then record starting numbers for the targets we agree on.

02

Order the work

You get a plan that puts the work with the best expected return first and sets the channel mix for your market.

03

Run the channels together

Specialists work side by side on search, ads, content, links and conversion, all to one schedule.

04

Report and adjust

A live dashboard links activity to leads and revenue. Budget moves toward what performs and away from what does not.

Our commitments

What you can check before signing

These figures describe the program itself, such as its scope and terms. They are facts you can confirm on the first call.

  • A named, experienced lead on each account
  • Terms agreed in writing before work begins
  • Pricing quoted against your actual scope

Digital Marketing questions

Straight answers on Digital Marketing

What Canadian owners and their teams usually ask first.

Do I have to run every channel at once?
No. The section above on when a single channel is enough covers the situations where adding more would waste money. The map after it shows how to order channels when you do need several. Which situation you are in sets the starting point.
How do you decide between paid and organic?
It comes down to your margins, how quickly you need leads and how your customers shop. Need enquiries this month? Ads go first. Want a lower cost per customer over time? Organic gets more weight. Most clients run both, with ads covering the months while SEO builds.
How fast will I see results?
Once tracking and landing pages are ready, ads can bring in leads within days. Organic search is slower because rankings are earned over time. How slow depends on how contested your keywords are and how much authority your site already has. The map above uses ads to bridge that gap, and your dashboard is live from the first week.
How is this different from a full-service agency?
Plenty of agencies sell "full service" but run each channel as a separate team with separate goals. Here the channels share targets and a dashboard, and the specialists who plan the work carry it out.
Do you actually tie the work to revenue?
Yes. Before work starts we agree which number each channel owns. Analytics and attribution are set up so results trace back to leads and sales, and we report on it every week. When something is not paying off, we tell you and move the money.
What is the minimum commitment?
After the setup period, agreements roll every 90 days. You are never locked into a year, so we have to justify the work each quarter. The first conversation and the initial review cost nothing and carry no obligation.
Who actually does the work?
A specialist for each channel, led by one strategist who stays with your account. You will not be routed through a junior coordinator.
Can you work with our existing tools and CRM?
Yes. We connect to the analytics, CRM and ad accounts you already use, whether that is HubSpot, Salesforce or something smaller. Setting up clean attribution across them is part of onboarding at no extra charge.
What happens if a channel stops working?
Weekly reporting against targets means we notice quickly. We look for the cause and try a fix. If it still does not earn its budget, the money moves to a channel that does, and you hear the reasoning from us first.
What if I can only afford one channel?
Then put the full budget into one channel and do it well. Spreading a small budget across six usually means six weak efforts. The section above on when one channel is enough lists the cases where that is the smart choice, and the sequence builder shows where your pick fits in the order.
